The Independent Police Control Authority in Kenya revealed that 65 people were killed in demonstrations that broke out in June and July, condemning excessive use of strength and illegal dealing with the protesters.

The authority’s report – issued yesterday, Thursday, stated that it participated in 61 autopsy operations for four protests in the country, including the “Saba Saba” demonstrations, which recorded the highest number of deaths of 41 people, compared to 23 in the June protests, and one person during a demonstration demanding justice in the case of the death of the teacher Albert Oujuang during the police seizure.

And criticize the report Police performance, accusing the authorities of dealing with peaceful demonstrations as if they were riots, and deployed forces in two official and civil uniforms without signs of definition or military ranks.

He also accused the officers of not interfering in pro -government protests, hiding official car plates and avoiding the width of the ranks and names.

The report made recommendations to the Inspector General of the Police, including the need to respect the right to peaceful demonstration, determine the identity of the officers clearly, and the use of body cameras to document abuses and hold the officials accountable.
