Haaretz newspaper published a letter addressed to a supposed Israeli soldier in which the writer criticized the indifference of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government to the army’s “sacrifices” in its war in the Gaza Strip and southern Lebanon.
Journalist Uri Misgav said in his letter addressing that soldier: “First of all, it is important – my friend – that you realize what your prime minister and his wife did last Yom Kippur. They spent the day in Jerusalem with a group of influential people and American Jews, who are (Donald) Trump’s agents.” And Netanyahu.”
The article detailed the details of Netanyahu and his wife Sarah’s celebration of Yom Kippur, which is considered the holiest day of the year for Jews, as they ate with their American guests twice. The first time, a meal before fasting, then one day later, another meal after fasting, “which was filled with alcoholic beverages and the exchange of smiles.”
Netanyahu signed copies of his book, “Bibi,” and a picture was taken of him with a smile on his face in order to publish it on his fans’ accounts on the Instagram platform.
All of this happened “at the same time that you (the soldiers) may have been fighting in the Gaza Strip or Lebanon, and you were being bombed in your gathering areas on the northern border.”
Misgav continued in his letter to the supposed soldier, “You were a fixed target at the Philadelphia crossing, or in the Netzarim corridor. You were seizing Jabalia, patrolling it, and clearing it for the fourth time. You carried out patrols in the West Bank.”
“And if you are still a regular soldier, I hope you have been informed that your service has been extended this year by an additional 4 months…and perhaps (your commanders) will find some way to extend it again before you are discharged through reserve service under the terms of conscription.”
The journalist addressed the Israeli army forces through the supposed soldier, saying, “If you are a reserve soldier, you must have noticed that this is the third or fourth time that you have been called (to perform military service) this year. And that you can hardly remember your previous life, nor your family, nor The work or studies I started.”
He told the soldiers, “You are sacrificing for a government that is about to enact legislation exempting ultra-Orthodox Jews from forced conscription, with the support of extremist ministers in the ruling coalition.”
“But that is not all,” the writer said, addressing the supposed soldier. “First, you must realize that you are fuel for war, and that your life is not worth anything, as human life no longer has any value in Israel.”
He warned him, “If you die in Gaza or Lebanon, your picture will only be in the headlines for an hour. After that, they will rush to produce the next article to promote the government or they will move on to talking about the victims who will fall after you. You will only remain good material for the memorial service.”
You may one day return, shrouded in a black body bag or in a coffin. And then, she will have become a lapel pin, an accessory, just empty words, or a story on Sarah Netanyahu’s Instagram account, while she prays with reassured and innocent eyes at the Buraq Wall for the safety of our hostages and soldiers.
Misgav continued his harsh sarcasm, addressing the supposed soldier, “You may say to yourselves that you are fighting for the people of the north and the border area with Gaza, for the sake of your children and fathers. Tactically, this is supposed to be true, but strategically, you are fighting to preserve the government that insists “Not setting diplomatic goals and end lines for the war.”
He criticized Netanyahu’s government, describing it as “babbling” a lot about “defeat,” “crushing,” and “total victory,” while dreaming of annexing the Gaza Strip, occupying a “security zone” in Lebanon, and overthrowing the Iranian regime.
He returned, speaking in his letter to the soldier, saying, “One day you may return shrouded in a black body bag or in a coffin. By then, you will have become a lapel pin, or an accessory, or just empty words, or a story on Sarah Netanyahu’s Instagram account, while she prays with eyes.” “Reassured and innocent at the Buraq Wall for the safety of our hostages and soldiers.”
