The city of Beirut mourned the funeral of the martyr Saleh Al-Arouri, deputy head of the political bureau of the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas), and the leaders of the movement, Azzam Al-Aqra’ and Muhammad Al-Rayes, who were assassinated by Israel in the southern suburbs on Tuesday evening.
Thousands participated in the funeral procession, led by members of the political bureau of the Hamas movement, the Secretary-General of the Islamic Group in Lebanon, Sheikh Muhammad Taqoush, the head of the International Union of Resistance Scholars, Sheikh Maher Hammoud, delegations, political figures, and representatives of Lebanese and Palestinian forces and parties.
Amidst a state of anger and cheering, the coffin of the martyr Al-Arouri was wrapped with the Palestinian flag and the Hamas flag, and the rifle that appeared in the last video was placed on top of it as a response to the Israeli occupation’s threat to assassinate him. Prayers were offered for them at the Imam Ali Mosque in Tariq Al-Jadidah, and the burial took place in the Martyrs’ Cemetery in the Sabra and Shatila camp, south of Beirut.
In his speech during the funeral, a member of the Hamas political bureau, Zaher Jabareen, affirmed that the resistance will prevail. He said, “We are a people who resist, and we have presented the leaders as martyrs. We pledge, Abu Muhammad (Al-Arouri), that we will continue the march, and our path is victory, liberating the land, and defeating the occupation.”
Islamic Jihad leader Mahfouz Munawar said, “We are here at the funeral of resistance leaders, and our Palestinian and Lebanese people and all those present here are here to express their position in support of the resistance.”
Speaking to Tel Aviv Tribune Net, Munawar considered that the crowds who participated in the funeral confirm that the resistance option is the correct one, stressing that “the battle with the enemy continues, and that resistance movements do not react to the event.”
As for Sheikh Amin Al-Kurdi, representative of the Mufti of the Lebanese Republic, he said to Al-Jazeera Net, “The blood of Sheikh Saleh Al-Arouri confirms that the confrontation is open with the Zionist enemy, and that what is happening in Gaza restores the nation’s pride and dignity, and tells the enemy that if a martyr falls, it will generate thousands of martyrs.”
