A global initiative calls for making New Year’s celebrations an opportunity to stop the Gaza war News

The Global Campaign for an Immediate and Permanent Ceasefire in Gaza called for making New Year’s Eve celebrations an opportunity to call for a ceasefire in Gaza, and to implement a symbolic event accompanying local celebrations around the world.

A statement from this campaign said that it calls for making the New Year’s celebration “an opportunity to make decisions for a brighter future.”

“With nearly 30,000 civilians killed, including more than 10,000 children, our only New Year’s resolution is to call for a permanent ceasefire,” he added.

The campaign aims to mobilize people from all over the world to join their local celebrations on New Year’s Eve, on December 31, in order to call for an immediate and permanent ceasefire in Gaza. The statement stressed, “Our goal is to transform the traditional countdown to the New Year into an effective and resounding countdown to a permanent ceasefire in Gaza.”

The statement noted, “The campaign was successfully adopted by more than 30 countries united in its mission to stop the brutal killing of civilians, and save the lives of people in Gaza, the West Bank, and Israel.”

“A permanent ceasefire is the first step to ending the current deplorable situation, and a tangible move toward a future where communities affected by shocks can rebuild and recover,” said Bushra Mohamed, spokeswoman for the campaign.

According to its founders, this campaign was launched in London in mid-December by a group of young activists who interacted through social media.
