When we think of Tokyo, we usually imagine a bustling city filled with skyscrapers. But this destination is not limited to that and offers many havens of peace to discover. Guided tour with a radio presenter and DJ and a cosplayer.
In this episode of My City Tokyo, Harry Sugiyama, TV and radio presenter, and Hakken, a cosplayer, show us their favorite places in the Japanese capital.
A dive into nature
Far from the lights and the hustle and bustle, Harry loves the other side of the Japanese capital: tranquility and nature. Passionate about running, Yoyogi Park is one of his favorite places to do it.
It also can’t resist a hike on Mount Takao, 50 minutes by train from central Tokyo. On site, visitors leave the hustle and bustle of the big city for almost total silence to discover the many trails available to them.
To relax and have a good evening, Harry reveals two of his favorite restaurants, in the Nishi-Azabu and Yanaka districts, where he enjoys a lovingly prepared Japanese omelette and a curry rich in spices.
Everything for cosplay
For Hakken, originally from Malaysia, Tokyo is a colorful city that she visits often. Disguised as different characters as a cosplayer, Hakken explores Nippori, also known as “Fabric Town”, to find unusual outfits and accessories.
She’s fascinated by the modern and designer stores in Omotesando, but she also shows us one of her favorite antique stores, in a quieter alley.
To enjoy a breathtaking view of the city at night, Hakken likes to go to the top of the Shibuya Scramble Square tower and marvel at this ocean of sparkling skyscrapers that this megalopolis offers from the observation deck Shibuya Sky.
