A person was killed yesterday evening, Saturday, as a result of the explosion of an explosive device outside a clinic specializing in childbearing techniques in the city of Palm Springs, California, while the FBI confirmed that the explosion was deliberate.
“A package inside or near a car that was pillars in the building caused the explosion,” the Los Angeles Times quoted the mayor, Ron Dahart, as saying.
And police chief Andy Mills said that “the bombing appears to have done deliberate violence, and its impact spanned several streets with the damage of many buildings,” but it was likely that the attack was isolated.
For its part, the Associated Press quoted the FBI as saying that the authorities were working to confirm the identity of the person who was killed in the California explosion, noting that the explosion was a deliberate terrorist act.
The office said that its members, police and firefighters went to the place, and that he had sent a number of investigators and “explosives technicians.”
Footage showed by American television channels showed widespread damage to the street where the clinic is located, while firefighters worked to put out a fire in a car.
Justice Minister Pam Bondi said that “violence against a fertility clinic is not forgiven.”
“We are working to learn more, but to be clear: President Donald Trump’s administration realizes that women and mothers are the beating heart of the United States,” she added.
Reproductive care, including abortion and fertility, is still a controversial issue in the United States, where some conservatives are demanding that these procedures be banned for religious reasons. Violence remains against such centers rare, but it is not unprecedented.
