A strong earthquake of 6.2 on the Richter scale, at the dawn of Tuesday, struck the border area between the Greek Dodisanisa Islands and the western coasts of Turkey, and was felt by the inhabitants of neighboring countries, while it was not reported that human losses occurred, according to Reuters.

For its part, the European Mediterranean Seismology Center reported that a 6 -magnitude earthquake on the Richter scale shook the border region of Dodecanisa between Turkey and Greece in the southeast of the Aegean Sea off the Turkish coast.

The earthquake was at a depth of 75 km and a distance of 146 km southwest of the Turkish Denzleh and 22 km from the Greek island of Rhodes.

The earthquake occurred specifically at 2:17 am local time, which caused a wave of additional tremors and fears in a number of surrounding countries.

Residents in Greater Cairo and the northern coast reported their feeling of earthquake at the same time as the earthquake.

No official reports have been recorded on human or material losses, while the competent authorities in the concerned countries announced that they are following the developments of the situation, and are preparing to issue subsequent illustrations.

For its part, the National Institute for Astronomical Research in Egypt, through the “X” platform (formerly Twitter), said that an earthquake of 6.2 was monitored on the Richter scale and its center near the borders of Türkiye.

The earthquake center is located in the eastern Mediterranean region, which is known as one of the most earthquakes in the world, in which several major tectonic sheets intersect, including the African plate, which moves north towards the Eurasian plate and the Anatolian plate, which is affected by the movement of the Eurasian plate from the north.

Greece is one of the most vulnerable countries of Europe, and the famous tourist island of Santorini has been exposed to an unprecedented level of seismic activity for weeks earlier this year, prompting thousands to evacuate and close schools.
