A report published by the British newspaper The Independent revealed that opponents of the wars of George W. Bush and Tony Blair two decades ago were chanting “No to war for oil,” while demonstrators today denounce the American-British military attack on Yemen to protect global trade in the Red Sea.

The report stated that the new British Foreign Secretary, David Cameron, threatened to launch more air strikes on Yemen, while apparently forgetting that his intervention to overthrow Muammar Gaddafi’s regime in Libya in 2011 actually took 6 months, leaving Libya in a state of chaos.

He said that Yemen is at the heart of various conflicts, whether it is Gaza or West Africa. He continued that despite the strategic importance of Yemen due to its view on a region that is a corridor for a large part of global trade, the West has “maliciously neglected” the suffering of the Yemenis for decades.

He stressed the need to remember that intervention in Yemen has a shameful history, highlighting that American and British warships may have succeeded in repelling some Houthi attacks in the Red Sea, but this success comes at high costs, as drones drop missiles worth two million dollars, while not exceeding Its cost is 15 thousand dollars.

Great concern

According to the report, what is most worrying is the exhaustion of the Western stockpile of defensive missiles. Ukraine has relied heavily on NATO resupply of them to repel Russian air strikes, but in recent weeks Washington has redirected supplies of Patriot missiles to Israel.

With North Korea launching missiles as a provocation against South Korea and Japan, and China threatening Taiwan, the burden is becoming heavier on the US Navy and its allies, whose weapons are deployed around the world’s vital economic arteries.

According to the Independent report, many aggressive voices in Britain and in the United States ignored how the Pentagon and the British Ministry of Defense, despite bloated defense spending, were unable to maintain production levels of defensive missile systems.

He continued that anti-war advocates are right to criticize arms manufacturers for making huge profits, but for the wrong reasons: untold billions of taxpayers’ money has been poorly spent.
