The Bolivian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced its support for the lawsuit filed by South Africa before the International Court of Justice against Israel for genocide crimes in the Gaza Strip.

Bolivia praised the step taken by South Africa in this regard in accordance with its commitment to the Genocide Convention, considering it a historic step in defending the rights of the Palestinian people and the Palestinian cause, stressing the need to support this initiative by the international community.

The Ministry pointed out that Bolivia, in partnership with South Africa, Bangladesh, Comoros and Djibouti, submitted a lawsuit to the International Criminal Court on November 17 to investigate the situation in the Palestinian territories.

Bolivia is the first country in Latin America to announce its support for South Africa’s lawsuit.

Yesterday, Sunday, a spokesman for the Israeli Foreign Ministry confirmed Israel’s intention to send former judge of the Israeli Supreme Court, Aharon Barak, to participate in the hearing before the International Court of Justice, which will consider the case brought by South Africa against Israel.

South Africa filed a lawsuit against Israel before the highest court of the United Nations, accusing it of committing genocide. The court set the dates of January 11 and 12 to hold the hearings.

Israel denied the accusations made by South Africa, and claimed that Hamas was solely responsible for the suffering of the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, by committing war crimes and crimes against humanity.

Since last October 7, Israeli forces have been waging an ongoing war on the Gaza Strip, resulting in the death of 22,835 Palestinians and the injury of 58,416 others, most of whom are children and women. This war caused massive destruction of infrastructure and left an unprecedented humanitarian catastrophe, according to Palestinian and international reports.
