Thousands of population went out in the capital of Côte d’Ivoire Abidjan, in protest against the prevention of opposition leaders from running for the presidential elections, as well as President Wattara announced his intention to run in the leadership of the country in a fourth state.

Côte d’Ivoire -the French region, and which is classified as one of the strongest economies of the West Africa region -will witness presidential elections next October, in which a number of leaders and political and economic figures will compete.

The Independent Elections Committee announced earlier this year the exclusion of personalities from the presidential race, including former President Laurent Gabago, the economist and former CEO of the Credit Swiss Tikan Thiam Group.

In the demonstrations that took place yesterday, Saturday, the demonstrators raised slogans saying, “Enough … there is no democracy without justice … and millions say yes to the Tiam and Ghaghbujojo.”

Last July, 83 -year -old Pattara announced that he would run for a fourth term in a controversial move, after changing the constitution in 2016 to cancel restrictions on the number of presidential states.

Some activists who participated in the demonstrations said that they wanted to review the electoral lists, standing in the face of the fourth term of the President Wattara because it is a violation of the constitution, and prevents the elections from being held in an atmosphere of calm and peace.

Usually, the elections in Côte d’Ivoire are accompanied by an atmosphere of tension and chaos, and when Wattara declares his candidacy for a third term, a number of people were killed in electoral violence.
