The International Islamic College of Crook University in Bangkok, the capital of Thailand, is preparing to organize the third international scientific conference under the title “Contemporary Arabic: Knowledge, Horizons, and Challenges.” This prominent academic event is scheduled to hold Thursday, October 9, 2025, at the International Conference Hall of the University, with the participation of a group of academics and researchers from different countries of the world.

The conference aims to be a vital platform to enhance scientific research and exchange experiences about the reality of the Arabic language in contemporary contexts, and to explore the prospects for its advancement in light of cultural and technological transformations, in addition to facing the challenges that face their education and spread at the global level.

Comprehensive goals

According to the invitation issued by the Dean of the International Islamic College, Prof. Gran Malolim, the organization of the conference comes within the framework of “the tireless pursuit of the academic and research levels, and the promotion of scientific cooperation between universities and research institutions.” The conference allows researchers to submit their papers in both Arabic or English, with the possibility of publishing accepted research in tight scientific journals, some of which are indexed within the international “Scopus” databases, which adds an important academic value to the participants.

The conference’s work is focused on 5 main axes, which reflects the awareness of the organizers of the link of the Arabic language in various aspects of contemporary life:

  • Language, religion and culture: studying the interaction between the Arabic language and the religious and cultural identity.
  • Business and Halal Affairs: Discussing the role of Arabic in the fields of economics and making products and halal services.
  • Education, law and history: discussing the reality of teaching the Arabic language, its legislation and its historical heritage.
  • Politics, society and participation: dealing with the presence of the Arabic language in political and societal discourse.
  • Foreign Affairs: reviewing the Arab position in international relations, diplomatic and civilized communication.

The organizing committee set a clear timetable to ensure the smoothness of the participation process and the evaluation of research, as the tenth of August 2025 set a final date for providing summaries, provided that the owners of acceptable summaries are notified between 10 and 25 August. Followed by the period of full research and payment of fees from August 25 to September 10, then the arbitration stage and the final amendments that extend until September 25, 2025.

Regional and international efforts

The convening of this conference comes in the context of a remarkable sleep for regional and international efforts to support the Arabic language in the Southeast Asian region. In November 2024, Thailand witnessed the launch of the “Arabic Language Month” program, on the initiative of the King Salman International Complex for Arabic, in cooperation with the University of Crook and other Thai institutions, with the aim of developing the curricula of Arabic education and enhancing the efficiency of teachers.

The International Islamic College in Bangkok also works, through the Bangkok Arabic Language Center (BALC), in partnership with leading institutions such as Al -Azhar University in Egypt and Saudi Arabia, to be an incubator for linguistic and cultural initiatives. The organization of the conference in cooperation with the “Asian Islamic Universities Association” (AIUA) and other academic bodies, as it appears on the official poster, reflects the wide international dimension of the effectiveness.

This version is the third in a series of scientific conferences organized by the college, as the previous version (2024) focused on employing artificial intelligence techniques in teaching the Arabic language, and the college also hosted in the beginning of 2025 a cultural conference in cooperation with the Sheikh Hamad Award for International Translation and Understanding, and this confirms its position as a vital center to enhance cultural and linguistic understanding between the Arab world and Southeast Asia.
