Former heads of state in the West Africa region have pledged to support the state of Cote d’Ivoire in preparing and holding the presidential elections scheduled for next October.

This commitment came after a meeting held by the African Wise Forum on Friday in the capital, Abidjan, attended by some former presidents, in addition to the managers of a number of important institutions in the region, such as Eicas.

This announcement coincided with the existence of an electoral mission led by the former Bunin President Bonnie Yayy, his Nigerian counterpart, Godk Jonathan, and the former president of the Eikwas Muhammad bin Shambas Commission.

The mission of this mission began from July 7, and until July 11, where she met the current Vice President of the State, the Director of the Independent National Elections Committee, the Chairman of the Constitutional Council, and the heads of political parties and their candidates.

In a closing statement of the mission, Bonnie Yaye said that the West African Wise Men Forum confirms its commitment to accompanying Cote d’Ivoire throughout the electoral process, and to provide its benign endeavors whenever the need arises with the aim of reaching the consensus and enhancing the resilience of democracy.

The statement indicated that Cote d’Ivoire has an opportunity to extract lessons from the past, and to consolidate the progress made towards a more powerful democracy, and a society that prevails in peace and prosperity.

The former Baninian president said that although the remaining time before polling, it is still possible to achieve a lot through a collective commitment and real political will.

Côte d’Ivoire lives on an escalating political tension before the upcoming presidential elections. Observers fear that the country will lead to confrontations between the actors in the scene, such as what happened in 2011.
