Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez called today, Friday, to an immediate comment of the partnership agreement between the European Union and Israel against the background of committing a genocide.

In his statements in the Spanish parliament, Sanchez criticized the government of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who is required for the International Criminal Court, noting that its practices “will remain in mind as one of the darkest chapters of the twenty -first century” as he described.

Sanchez confirmed that Spain and Ireland asked the European Union in February 2024 to assess the extent of Israel’s commitment to the partnership agreement with the Union.

The Spanish Prime Minister touched on the report of the Union’s actress for foreign and security affairs, Kaya Callas, issued on June 23 on the agreement: “The report concluded that there is more than sufficient evidence that Israel violated the second article of the agreement, which is based on respecting human rights.”

Sanchez said that the European Union has not yet taken any steps against Israel, adding: “The one who tramples the founding principles of the European Union and uses hunger (in Gaza) to use a weapon to eliminate a legitimate state (Palestine) to be a partner of the European Union.”

The Spanish Prime Minister criticized Europe for not making it enough to stop the genocide, stressing the need not to allow Netanyahu to commit what was accused of Russian President Vladimir Putin in Ukraine.

And he added: “We cannot be partners in the largest genocide witnessed by this century by submitting to indifference, hesitation or political accounts.”

The partnership agreement between the European Union and Israel was signed in Brussels on November 20, 1995, and entered into force on June 1, 2000, after it was approved by the parliaments of the member states of the European Union, the European Parliament and the Israeli Knesset.

The second article of the partnership agreement states that relations between the two parties are based on respecting “human rights.”

The Spanish Ministry of Defense announced in early June a contract with an Israeli company to produce an anti -tank “Spike” missile system for use in the leadership of the ground forces.

The Ministry withdrew the license of the Israeli company in Spain, and began searching for non -Israeli alternatives.

This comes at a time when Israel continues to support American genocide in Gaza since October 7, 2023, which has left more than 195,000 Palestinians, martyrs and wounded, most of them children and women, and thousands of missing persons, as well as hundreds of thousands of displaced people.
