A delegation from the Equality and Democracy of the Turkish Peoples, who is affiliated with the Kurds, met today, Sunday, the founder of the PKK Abdullah Ocalan in his prison, and it is expected that tomorrow, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan will meet.

The meeting came amid reports that the Kurdistan Workers’ Party fighters are ready to organize the arms deposit ceremony in Iraqi Kurdistan, which is likely to take place between 10 and 12 July.

The Party of Equality and Democracy of the Peoples said that its two deputies in Parliament, Barafin Boldan and Medhat Sinjar, accompanied by lawyer Ozgour Airul, went to the Istalle Island prison near Istanbul to visit Ocalan.

After the visit, the party announced that Boldan and Sinjar would meet President Erdogan in the presidential palace tomorrow, Monday.

On May 12, the Kurdistan Workers Party announced the dissolution of itself, in response to the call of Ocalan at the end of February, and ending armed action against Ankara, which spanned more than 4 decades and killed more than 40,000 people.

But the party recently said that Türkiye has not implemented it in this regard, especially in terms of improving the circumstances of Ocalan’s arrest (76 years).

In statements to the Kurdish “Stirk” channel, one of the founders of the party and the most prominent of his current leaders, Mustafa Karaaso, expressed “the full party’s readiness” to initiate the implementation of the resolution, but he criticized what he described as “the Turkish government’s insult” to take corresponding steps.

The party leadership expressed its reservations about the continued removal of its leader, Abdullah Ocalan, in his prison on the island of Ilali, considering that any delay by giving him more freedom to communicate with the party’s rules fully hinder the implementation of the solution.

For his part, Erdogan stressed yesterday, Saturday, that peace efforts with the Kurds will gain momentum with the start of the party’s fighters to throw their weapons, and indicated that he would receive a delegation from the Equality and Democracy of Peoples Party.
