Guinea achieved a record in the export of the bakusette metal during the first quarter of this year, as it scored 48.6 million tons, which represents an increase of 39% compared to last year.

Despite the restrictions imposed by Conakry this year on some companies operating in the field of bacilli extraction, the total exports have increased significantly, reflecting the sector’s flexibility and importance, especially from China, which is at the forefront of aluminum producers at the global level.

According to the official data issued by the Ministry of Mines and Geology in Guinea, the first quarter of this year witnessed the departure of 312 ships from the port of Conakry with 48 tons, while 255 ships and 34.9 tons were registered in the same period last year.

Chinese demand high

This export leap was driven by an increase in the Chinese demand for the bakusette ore mineral, which is major in aluminum production.

The data of the Chinese National Statistical Office indicates that China’s aluminum production reached 18.59 million tons in the first five months of this year, which represents an increase of 4%, compared to the same period in 2024.

Since 2016, Guinea has become a major destination for Chinese companies operating in aluminum production, and experts say that the pace of weekly export from the port of Conakry is up to 3.7 million tons of this mineral.

Current estimates indicate that at the end of 2025, the total estate of bauxite from Guinea may reach 1992 million tons, a significant increase over the year 2024 in which production stopped at the threshold of 146 million tons.

These numbers enhance China’s increasing dominance of Boxett’s resources in Guinea, as Beijing imported in 2024 about 158.7 million tons, 70% of Conakry, which was classified as the second largest global producer of the Boxette metal, and its largest source towards Chinese ports.

In recent years, the authorities in Guinea began investing in infrastructure, especially in ports and roads to enhance their absorptive capabilities and keep pace with global demand for Boxet resources.
