Sharia receives the Iraqi envoy in Damascus news

The Syrian presidency reported today, Monday, that President Ahmed Al -Shara received at the People’s Palace in Damascus, Izzat Al -Shabandar, the special envoy of the Iraqi Prime Minister to Syria.

Al -Jazeera correspondent in Damascus said that the delegation will discuss, during the visit, several files of interest to the two countries, foremost of which are the security and commercial files, in addition to the border file.

The visit of the Iraqi envoy to Damascus today, after a previous meeting In Doha, collection The Sharia President with Prime Minister of Iraq Muhammad Shi’a Al -Sudani By a state Qatar, in mid -April last.

The Syrian presidency statement at the time confirmed that the meeting dealt with bilateral relations between Syria and Iraq in the context of the two sides’ keenness to reactivate the paths of joint Arab cooperation, and to emphasize the depth of historical ties between the two brotherly peoples.

The statement added that Sharia and the Sudanese stressed the need to respect the sovereignty and independence of the two countries and reject all forms of external interference, stressing that the security and stability of Syria and Iraq constitute the cornerstone of the security of the region as a whole.

10 days after that meeting, an Iraqi delegation led by the head of intelligence, Hamid Al -Shatri, the capital, Damascus, arrived to meet with Syrian President Ahmed Al -Shara, and to discuss security and economic cooperation between the two countries, according to a statement of the Iraqi Prime Minister.

This was followed by the participation of Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad Al -Shaibani, at the thirty -fourth Arab summit held in Baghdad on May 17, after assurances from the Syrian presidency that the Sharia President will be absent from that summit

Since the overthrow of the regime of ousted Syrian President Bashar al -Assad last December, press reports believe that Baghdad is “dealing with caution” with Damascus, despite the Sudanese statements that his country “coordinates with Syria regarding securing the borders and is ready to provide support, and does not want Syria to be a foreign conflict station.”
