In an article published by the Israeli newspaper “Humkum”, the writer Eli Bari highlighted the incident of the rejection of a number of soldiers of the 931 battalion of Major General Nahal returning to the Gaza Strip after long months of fighting, considering that their military service exceeded the boundaries accepted humanly and psychologically.

The writer indicated that the soldiers expressed their protest by refusing to comply with the orders, as the soldiers went to the commander of their battalion, Colonel (J), noting that they had fought 17 rounds inside the sector.

The soldiers said that they witnessed violent field events, during which they lost close friends, and that they were no longer able to continue these combat tasks, and added that they were waiting for their demobilization last month, but the emergency ordered 8 frozen their exit.

Trials and fines

The author stated that the battalion commander did not deal with their request to listen or contain, but rather decided to submit them to an internal trial and impose a fine of 1500 shekels on each of them, and threatened them with imprisonment if they refused to carry out military orders.

The writer stated that the regular soldiers were from the August August 2022 recruitment regiment, and they participated in the fighting continuously since the Flood of Al -Aqsa without obtaining any period of rest, unlike the reserve soldiers, some of whom were exempt or went out on short vacations.

The writer indicated that the soldiers complained after summoning them again, especially since they did not obtain a sufficient break, and considered that the army ignored their previous sacrifices in the first fighting rounds.

Psychological erosion is rising

The writer stated that this refusal was not individual, but rather similar cases were repeated in other units, which reflects the escalating psychological erosion within the army after months of continuous military operations in Gaza.

She pointed out that this incident is added to a series of similar cases that appeared in recent months within what is known as the phenomenon of “gray rejection”, where the soldiers express their rejection indirectly as a result of psychological pressure and the weak official response to their suffering.

The writer reported that journalist Routal Khobal had revealed in a series of published investigations last October that this phenomenon was widely among the regular soldiers, and that the military leadership dealt with it silently or punitive decisions instead of providing radical solutions.

In conclusion, the writer reported the statement of the Israeli army spokesman that “the battalion commander listened to the soldiers’ statements, and explained to them that the military establishment is open to the dialogue, and provides psychological support through meetings of psychological emptying organized before and after the combat missions.”
