American writer Aviva Klumbas said that the administration of US President Donald Trump has taken a series of steps in foreign policy in recent weeks, quietly reshaping the relationship between the United States and Israel, explaining that it is interrelated but not identical relations.

Klumbas also holds Canadian citizenship, and is considered one of the writers close to Israel, and one of its defenders.

She added in an article for the Wall Street Journal that when looking at the recent Trump administration decisions without consulting Israel, including conducting dialogues with Iran and lifting sanctions on Syria, negotiating with Hamas and release the American -Israeli hostage Alexander, it is clear that there is a shift in the American approach towards seeking to achieve American interests in the region, and leaves Israel the freedom to do the same.

No away

She added that this new American trend includes both opportunities and risks, for Israel.

And it added that this trend enhances the conviction of Tel Aviv that it should be able to defend itself, but on the other hand, it may raise the concerns of some that this may make Israel vulnerable, and that it is pushed into the margin while Washington holds its deals in the region.

She stated that this anxiety is justified, but she wondered whether the new approach to the Trump administration was more sincere than a relationship based on symbolic gestures and friction behind the scenes, allowing both countries to act according to their interests without pretending to be completely identical.

However, Klumbas stressed that, however, the United States and Israel cannot move away from each other, as stability in the Middle East region serves their interests together.

Trump had confirmed that he did not consult Israel before the decision to recognize the new Syrian government, explaining that the lifting of sanctions on Damascus was with the aim of giving an opportunity to the new administration.

The American president also stated that he does not know whether Netanyahu was able to sign an exchange and exit of Israeli detainees in Gaza, and that he would discover this very soon.

The American negotiations with Hamas succeeded in launching the Israeli Israeli prisoner, Idan Alexander, and the movement confirmed that the release came as a result of direct negotiations with Washington, which Trump considered a good -intentioned initiative.

However, this release sparked a wave of sharp criticism in Israel against Netanyahu, as Israeli newspapers said that Tel Aviv was subjected to a “painful insult” from the American president, because he held direct negotiations with Hamas from behind the back of Netanyahu.

The Israelis believe that the Netanyahu government has left the knees, especially as it is under international pressure due to the war on Gaza.

“The Middle East is in the process of re -formation in front of our eyes through a series of agreements and meetings, while Israel stands the spectator at best,” wrote Yoav Limore, commentator for the Yisrael Hume newspaper, this week.
