Update:

Kazakhstan president Kassym-Jomart Tokaïev, has led commemorations marking 80 years since the end of the Second World War with a great military parade in Astana on Wednesday.

More than 4,000 soldiers from the Kazakhstan armed forces participated in the commemorative event in the capital, which included tanks, armored vehicles, missile systems and an overview of 66 planes and helicopters.

More than 1.2 million Kazakhs served in the Soviet army during the Second World War, and around 600,000 Kazakh soldiers and civilians lost their lives in the conflict – a loss that President Tokayev described as “immeasurable” in his speech.
