The agreement, signed Monday at the Historical Gasometer of Berlin, brings together the Christian Democratic Union (CDU), its Bavarian brother party, the CSU, and the Social Democrats (SPD). The three parties had already approved the 144 -page agreement.
During the signing ceremony, Friedrich Merz said that Germany needed a government ready to work “With strength and method from the first day”.
The new coalition has a narrow majority in the Bundestag, with 328 of the 630 seats. It is committed to prioritizing economic growth, increasing defense spending, modernizing infrastructure and adopting a firmer position on immigration.
