The Islamist group released Eli Sharabi on Saturday morning, Ohad Ben Ami and Or Levy. Israel in exchange released 183 Palestinian prisoners.
Hamas released Eli Sharabi on Saturday morning, Ohad Ben Ami et Or Levy, three men captured during terrorist attacks on October 7, 2023 in southern Israel, who triggered the war in Gaza.
The three hostages were given to the international Red Cross after a propaganda ceremony organized by Hamas. They then joined an Israeli military base.
Israeli president Isaac Herzog, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and the hostage families forum denounced images that they describe as “shocking”.
Berlin was also outraged by the staging, when one of the three now ex-hostages, Ohad Ben Ami, is Israeli-German.
Who are the three released hostages?
Eli Sharabi was taken prisoner in the Kibbutz Beeri, which was one of the hardest affected by the attack on Hamas. His wife, Lianne, and their daughters, teenagers, were killed by the Islamist group.
Ohad Ben Ami, father of three, was taken hostage in the same community, where he was an accountant of Kibbutz. His wife, also captured, was released during a brief ceasefire in November 2023.
However, Levy, a computer programmer from the city of Rishon Lezion, was extracted by activists from an anti -diable shelter near the Nova music festival in southern Israel. His wife was killed during the attack.
Seven Palestinian prisoners hospitalized
In return for the release of the three hostages, Israel released midday 183 Palestinians detained in Israeli prisons.
Seven of them had to be hospitalized. Hamas condemned their conditions of detention.
The terms of the first phase of six weeks of the agreement provide that Hamas gradually releases a total of 33 Israeli hostages in exchange for around 1,900 Palestinian prisoners.
