Hopes are high that a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas in Gaza can finally be reached.

Negotiators in Doha, Qatar, appear to be close to breaking an impasse in ceasefire negotiations to end 15 months of Israeli war on Gaza.

In his latest foreign policy speech, outgoing US President Joe Biden suggested a deal was imminent.

Israeli media leaked details of the proposed deal.

This is what Biden has previously called a three-phase “road map to a lasting ceasefire.”

So, is the growing sense of optimism justified this time around?

And to what extent is U.S. President-elect Donald Trump playing an outsized role in these negotiations ahead of his inauguration next week?
