Military expert Brigadier General Elias Hanna said that the Israeli occupation army is failing to convert what he called “tactical successes” into “strategic achievements,” as deaths continue to fall in the northern Gaza Strip.
The retired brigadier general spoke to Tel Aviv Tribune in his comment on the killing of 10 soldiers since the start of the last special military operation in Beit Hanoun in the northern Gaza Strip about two weeks ago, according to the Israeli newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth.
The occupation army entered Beit Hanoun at the beginning of the military ground operation in late October 2023, and has invaded it frequently since that time, but without success in eliminating the resistance there despite the widespread destruction.
Hanna believes that Beit Hanoun is of great importance, as it is located on the northern eastern corner of the Gaza Strip, and is within the buffer zone that the occupation army continues to establish along the border strip.
The military expert explained that Beit Hanoun, with its small geographical area, is considered an obligatory passage to the Beit Lahia and Jabalia regions, as the latter constitutes the main center of gravity in northern Gaza.
Yesterday evening, Wednesday, the Israeli army announced that 3 soldiers were killed and 3 others were injured during battles in northern Gaza, while Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper reported that the killing of the three soldiers was due to the explosion of explosive devices placed on a tank in Beit Hanoun in the north.
A preliminary investigation revealed – according to the Israeli Broadcasting Authority – that a bomb exploded in a tank, killing 3 soldiers and wounding 3, one of them in serious condition, bringing the number of military deaths to 46 soldiers and officers since the start of the Israeli operation in northern Gaza more than 3 months ago.
According to the military expert, the Palestinian resistance is continuing a systematic process of attrition against the occupation army, even though the latest military operation in northern Gaza is approaching its 100th day, with the participation of 3 brigades without eliminating the fighters.
Hanna believes that the occupation army measures the success of its military operations by the number of dead resistance fighters, the area it controls, and the extent of the destruction it leaves behind, in a scene closer to achieving “tactical successes without strategic accumulations.”
On the other hand, the resistance is fighting militarily and politically to buy time and exhaust the occupation army for as long as possible and prevent it from achieving victory, as its victory lies in not losing, according to the military expert.
Hanna concluded that the occupation army is obligated to enter the areas of the Gaza Strip, but it is unable to stay, as field conditions force it to withdraw, which allows the resistance to return to these areas and reorganize and rehabilitate itself.
A few days ago, the Sanad News Verification Agency on Tel Aviv Tribune Network revealed, through satellite images, the widening areas of destruction in the residential neighborhoods of the city of Beit Hanoun and the residential city of Sheikh Zayed in the Beit Lahia area in the northern Gaza Strip.
Pictures taken between December 27 and January 3 show the extent of destruction and bulldozing in the Al-Zaytoun and Al-Ezbah neighborhoods in Beit Hanoun as a result of the Israeli incursion and bombing during the past two weeks.
