Within East Jerusalem, several Palestinian families were left homeless after their homes were demolished by Israel.
In the Al-Bustan neighborhood in the town of Silwan, where the occupation issued a demolition order and gave its residents only 10 days to evacuate, Haitham Ayed and his brother were among those affected there, as he received an order to demolish his house from the occupation without prior warning.
Despite the short period, demolition operations were carried out, of 6 homes, and the coercive operations forced Ayed to live with his family in a truck on top of the rubble, and this highlights the impact and damage on the lives of Jerusalemites.
The demolitions destroyed not only the walls, but also the safety and lives of families who lived in their shade and under their roof.
Ayed’s pain and helplessness in the face of his tragedy after losing his home is a feeling that resonates among many Palestinians.
The demolitions are part of the Israeli authorities’ increased enforcement measures since the attack on October 7, 2023.
Fakhri Abu Diab, a social activist and researcher whose house was also demolished, said that the occupation has destroyed more than 268 facilities, including homes and shops, since the beginning of the war.
The Jerusalem Municipality claims that these measures target illegal construction, but the Palestinians see them as Israeli efforts to remove them from the city.
