On Friday, Arab countries and institutions called for an end to the genocide that has been ongoing in the Gaza Strip for more than a year, and the establishment of a Palestinian state, on the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People, which falls on November 29 of each year.
The Secretary-General of the United Nations, António Guterres, affirmed the continued solidarity of the United Nations with the Palestinian people and their inalienable rights to live in peace, security and dignity.
In turn, UNRWA said that the plight of Palestinian refugees remains the longest unresolved refugee crisis in the world, as the Gaza Strip witnessed last year the most severe bombing of the civilian population since World War II.
Statements were issued by Qatar, Kuwait, the Sultanate of Oman, Bahrain, Egypt, Tunisia and the Arab Parliament on this occasion.
The International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People is an occasion organized by the United Nations since November 29, 1977, as a reminder of what was stipulated in Resolution 181 issued by its General Assembly on that day in 1947, which stipulates the division of Palestine into two Arab and Jewish states.
Demands for a Palestinian state
The Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement that it affirms on this day its firm and continuing commitment to supporting the rights of the brotherly Palestinian people.
She added that a just and sustainable peace in the region depends on ending the suffering of the Palestinian people and the crimes against them, especially in Gaza, and ensuring all their rights, most notably the establishment of their independent state on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.
Doha witnessed an event titled “Renaissance for Palestine,” coinciding with the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People, according to what was reported by the official Palestinian News Agency on Friday.
The Ambassador of the State of Palestine to Qatar, Fayez Abu Al-Rub, said that the Palestinian people, despite suffering due to the occupation, always aspire to freedom and independence.
The Omani Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in turn, affirmed in a statement its firm support for the right of the Palestinian people to achieve freedom, justice and peace, stressing that the occasion is an opportunity to prove the Palestinians’ rootedness in their land.
On this occasion, Kuwait also affirmed its firm support and its principled and firm stand for restoring the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people in accordance with international references and Security Council resolutions and establishing its independent state on the borders of June 4, 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital, according to a Foreign Ministry statement.
In Bahrain, Hatem Abdel Hamid, Head of the Organizations Sector at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, participated in the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People event, organized by the United Nations Office in the Kingdom in cooperation with the Embassy of Palestine, on Thursday, according to what was reported by the Bahraini News Agency.
During the event, Abdul Hamid stressed that Bahrain continues its firm commitment to supporting the Palestinian cause.
He stressed the importance of a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, ensuring the immediate and unhindered entry of humanitarian aid, and fully implementing the relevant Security Council resolutions.
As for Egypt, it said that on the occasion of this day, it affirms its continued full solidarity with the Palestinian people, and salutes their steadfastness in the face of the systematic violations committed by the Israeli occupation against them in full view of the international community.
In a statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, it renewed the demand for the necessity of uniting international efforts to end the Israeli occupation of the Palestinian territories, and to realize the aspirations and hopes of the Palestinian people for self-determination and the establishment of their independent state.
It also called for an immediate ceasefire (Israeli genocide) in Gaza and the full and unconditional entry of humanitarian aid.
She indicated that Cairo will organize an international ministerial conference to strengthen the humanitarian response in Gaza on the second of next December, to mobilize international support to provide humanitarian aid to the Palestinian people.
Meanwhile, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi sent a message to his Palestinian counterpart, Mahmoud Abbas, in which he expressed Egypt’s firm solidarity with the Palestinians in light of the successive crises, especially the humanitarian tragedy in the Gaza Strip as a result of the Israeli aggression.
He stressed the need for concerted international efforts to end the occupation and establish an independent Palestinian state along the lines of June 4, 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
Al-Sisi affirmed Egypt’s commitment to supporting the steadfastness of the Palestinian people, rejecting the liquidation of the issue and the displacement of the Palestinians.
International failure
In this context, Tunisia condemned in a statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs the failure of the international community to oblige Israel to stop the genocide in the Gaza Strip.
She pointed out that the Palestinian people no longer only need solidarity and sympathy with them, but also need to regain their stolen right to self-determination and end the occupation, a right recognized by the International Court of Justice and the United Nations General Assembly.
It called on the international community to move immediately, effectively and responsibly to stop the bleeding of the systematic war of genocide on the Palestinian people in Gaza and the rest of the occupied Palestinian territories.
Also on this occasion, the Arab Parliament called, in a statement, on the international community, countries of the free world, international and regional parliaments, and human rights organizations to take practical and serious steps to end the suffering of the Palestinian people.
He stressed that the way to achieve security and peace, return to stability, and stop escalation in the region and the world is to resolve the Palestinian issue based on international legitimacy resolutions, an immediate cessation of (Israeli) aggression, a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, and an end to the violations of the occupation army and colonizers in the West Bank.
He stressed his complete solidarity with the Palestinian people, and confronting all projects and plans aimed at liquidating the Palestinian cause or undermining the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people, and supporting them so that the Palestinians can obtain all their legitimate rights, including the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with the city of Jerusalem as its capital, and the right of return of Palestinian refugees.
On November 29 of every year, a number of countries around the world witness the organization of events in solidarity with the Palestinian people and their rights that are violated by Israel.
