The Palestinian Authority for Prisoners and Ex-Prisoners Affairs warned on Sunday of the poor living conditions faced by Palestinian prisoners in the Israeli “Etzion” prison, in the south of the occupied West Bank.
In a statement, the commission said that its lawyer “visited prisoners languishing in Etzion Prison, and revealed that they were exposed to complex life and health conditions, as a result of the Israeli retaliatory policies that have continued for more than a year.”
She stated that “115 detainees are detained in the prison, and are subjected to daily, immoral and inhuman treatment, and are subjected to beatings and insults without any reason.”
The authority added, quoting the lawyer, “The rooms are barbarically and violently stormed, they are forced to sit cross-legged, and there is a great focus on insulting them and targeting their psyches.”
Since the beginning of the genocide committed by Israel in the Gaza Strip on October 7, 2023, Israeli, Palestinian and international human rights organizations have spoken about the deteriorating conditions in Israeli prisons, especially in the notorious “Sde Teman”.
The total number of Palestinian prisoners exceeded 11,400 Palestinians from the West Bank, including Jerusalem, according to prisoner institutions, while accurate figures for detainees in the Gaza Strip are absent due to the Israeli blackout.
