For the first time in the world, a symphony orchestra played alongside a robot cellist in Malmö, Sweden.

Composed by Jacob Mühlrad, the piece entitled “Veer” explores new musical possibilities offered by robotics, allowing for the first time a machine to perform techniques that human musicians cannot achieve.

The robot, designed by Fredrik Gran, is equipped with two industrial robotic arms, allowing new sounds and techniques to be explored.

Mühlrad emphasizes that this collaboration aims to enrich the creative process, and although criticism has emerged, the experimentation has been well received by the public.

The robot will perform again in the United States in December 2024.
