US police in New York arrested more than 200 pro-Palestinian demonstrators after they organized a sit-in outside the New York Stock Exchange to demand an end to US support for Israel’s war in the Gaza Strip.

The demonstrators, many of whom belong to activist groups such as Jewish Voice for Peace, chanted the slogans “Let Gaza Live” and “Stop Funding Genocide” in front of the famous stock exchange building near Wall Street in Manhattan.

None of the demonstrators entered the stock exchange, but dozens of them were able to pass a security fence set up by police outside the main stock exchange building on Broad Street.

A police spokesman stated that 206 people were arrested, without further details, while Jewish groups that participated in the protests said that about 500 demonstrators participated in the protest, and the stock exchange has not issued any comment yet.

The demonstrators directed their anger at American defense contractors and weapons manufacturers, and others chanted slogans against the Israeli attacks in Lebanon, where Israel has for weeks expanded its escalation and air strikes, begun a ground intervention, and assassinated a number of Hezbollah leaders.

The “Jewish Voice for Peace” organization said in a statement on the

In contrast to these, there were also a much smaller number of pro-Israel demonstrators at the site, who raised Israeli flags.

This demonstration represents the latest expression of anger at American support for the Israeli aggression on the besieged Gaza Strip, which led to the killing of more than 42,000 Palestinians and the displacement of almost the entire population of the Strip, according to health officials in Gaza.
