A struggle for survival between bombing, hunger and thirst in northern Gaza policy

Gaza- The scene of an infant – crying intensely, while citizens perform funeral prayers for his mother – haunts journalist Moaz Al-Kahlot, who lives in the northern Gaza Strip, who has been exposed to widespread Israeli aggression for 9 days.

Al-Kahlout witnessed this harsh situation during… Its coverage of occupation violations Several days ago. He told Tel Aviv Tribune Net, “I cannot forget this situation. It haunts me, so much so that from the horror of what I saw, I forgot that I was a journalist and did not photograph it. The baby was asking for his martyr mother, who was killed by the occupation, and other children took turns carrying him in the hope that he would calm down, but to no avail.”

The occupation forces have besieged the northern Gaza Strip, especially the Jabalia camp and town area, for 9 days, amid continued artillery shelling and sniping of citizens by targeting them with small drones.

The Palestinians fear that the goal of the current aggression is to implement what is known as the “generals’ plan,” which seeks to completely empty the area north of the Gaza Valley of its population.

Journalist Al-Kahlot added that the conditions in the northern Gaza Strip are getting worse “by the minute,” and “from time to time the occupation advances from a certain direction, and during its advance it destroys infrastructure, citizens’ homes, facilities, residences, and farms, and this tightens the stranglehold on the people.”

He stated that the residents of the north refuse to comply with the occupation’s orders to move to the area south of the Gaza Valley, and move to other areas within the “north” region itself.

Regarding the living conditions of the population, Al-Kahlot describes the situation as “tragic,” as the minimum necessities of life, such as water, food, and health services, are not available. He continues, “Everything left, including food and water, is about to run out.”

He talked about how the occupation continues to commit its crimes “at every moment, as martyrs fall continuously, most of whom are children.”

A previous Tel Aviv Tribune Net report stated that the occupation forces completely separated the northern Gaza Strip from Gaza City with military vehicles and drones, erected dirt barriers and prevented the entry of any aid.

Execution of fugitives

For his part, Musa Salem – a resident of the town of Beit Lahia – says that he witnessed many of the occupation crimes committed against the residents of the north, especially those who tried to flee to Gaza City.

Salem added to Tel Aviv Tribune Net, “With the start of the aggression and siege, many families, accompanied by women and children, tried to flee to Gaza City through the Abu Sharkh roundabout, which separates the north from Gaza City, and the occupation snipers deliberately killed and wounded them.”

He recounts, “It was a terrible scene. Women carrying their children and men. Everyone was running and trying to approach the roundabout to flee to Gaza and escape death. The occupation was deliberately sniping people with drones and artillery… very painful scenes.”

Salem revealed another situation he witnessed after Quadcopter planes sniped a young man, his mother’s only male, who gave birth to him after many years. His mother and sisters came to pick him up from the ground while he was covered in his own blood, crying and screaming. “It was a painful scene.”

Systematic extermination

In turn, Tariq Al-Daqs, a resident of Jabalia camp, recalls a painful situation he witnessed on the fifth day of the aggression, when a woman took refuge with her family in the “Happy Yemen” hospital. He added, “The occupation pursued the woman – only two hours after her arrival – and fired a firebomb at her tent in the hospital courtyard, which led to her burning martyrdom.”

Al-Daqs told Al-Jazeera Net that the sounds of explosions and the blowing up of homes do not stop, confirming the information that talks about the occupation completely separating the northern Gaza Strip from Gaza City.

Al-Daqs added, “What is happening is systematic genocide, wholesale massacres. The occupation is destroying homes and roads, and bombing bakeries, water wells, desalination plants, and all aspects of life in the north. It wants to turn the region into a yellow, barren land to force the population to move to the south.”

Here, he pointed out that the occupation burned the only remaining bakery in the north, “Shalfouh” bakery, several days ago, in addition to bulldozing the wells.

He pointed out that the “Indonesian” and “Al-Awda” hospitals were out of service, while one hospital remained, “Kamal Adwan”, which was operating only at the bare minimum, explaining that the latter was completely overcrowded with wounded and displaced people.

It cannot be described

For his part, Hassan Al-Zaanin, a resident of Jabalia camp, tells horrific stories of the massacres committed by the occupation in the northern Gaza Strip. He revealed a tragedy that befell a woman with four children who were disabled due to brain atrophy and were unable to move. She was trapped in the Bir al-Naajah area. He said, “We were communicating with her, but we lost contact with her, and we do not know yet what will happen to her and her children.”

He added in his interview with Tel Aviv Tribune Net, “Bombing and bombing operations are still continuing inside Jabalia camp, especially in the western and southern regions of it.” He also pointed out that artillery and Quadcopter drones fire “randomly and barbarically at everyone in the alleys and streets.”

He pointed out that Kamal Adwan Hospital lacks medical personnel, medicines and medical supplies, which affects its ability to deal with the wounded who arrive there.

The siege and aggression caused a complete cessation of commercial activity and markets, which hinders the process of providing citizens with the necessary food supplies.

Al-Zaanin added, “People’s conditions are very difficult and cannot be described. There is no movement between the regions, and anyone who moves from one region to another is immediately targeted.”

He pointed out that the aggression does not allow the recovery of the bodies of the martyrs, as civil defense teams are unable to reach many of them, and their bodies remain dumped in the streets.

He added, “Many appeals came to civil defense crews to retrieve martyrs on the ground and in the roads, who tried to leave their homes, but the crews were unable to recover them.”

In turn, the Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Observatory warned – in a report issued on Sunday – that “anyone who escapes direct killing and bombing in the northern Gaza Strip remains threatened with death from hunger or thirst.”

He added that residents trapped in their homes and shelter centers cannot move to search for any food in their surroundings.

He explained that although the occupation army asked the residents to move south via Salah al-Din Street, it targeted them as soon as they left their homes or the shelter centers in which they were located.
