Russian President Vladimir Putin announced that Russia has launched joint naval exercises with China, called “Ocean-2024.” They began on Tuesday, September 10, and will end on September 16.

According to him, these exercises are aimed at checking Russia’s combat readiness and strengthening military cooperation with its allies. Moscow and Beijing have been moving closer since the start of the Russian offensive in Ukraine in February 2022. China has never condemned this offensive.

The Russian leader blames the United States for disrupting the balance of power in the Asia-Pacific region. “The United States is essentially provoking an arms race, neglecting the security of its European and Asian allies, and creating the preconditions for a dangerous crisis situation in Europe and the Asia-Pacific region. I want to emphasize that Russia must be ready to respond to any developments in the situation,” he explained.

The naval exercises – the largest of their kind in three decades – will take place in the Pacific and Arctic Oceans, the Mediterranean, the Caspian and the Baltic Seas.

They mobilize more than 90,000 soldiers, more than 400 ships at sea and 120 planes and helicopters.
