The Israeli website “Walla” revealed, quoting military sources, that the Israeli occupation army decided to extend the period of its military operation in the Jenin camp in the northern West Bank, which was scheduled to end yesterday, Tuesday.
According to the Israeli website, the extension of the Jenin operation came by order of the Minister of Defense based on intelligence information about the military infrastructure in the camp.
Commenting on the Israeli decision, retired military and strategic expert Major General Wassef Erekat said that there are several reasons behind the decision, including that the occupation army wants to tell the world that it is facing fierce resistance, as is the case in the Gaza Strip.
The occupation claims that what it is facing in Jenin and the West Bank is an army that has equipment and capabilities, although what is confronting it – says Major General Erekat – is the Palestinian people with their awareness and adherence to their rights, and a resistance that is modest in its capabilities, but effective in its courage, bravery, and ability to confront the occupation.
After expanding and penetrating the region, the occupation army established field investigation rooms headed by the Israeli intelligence agency (Mossad), the military intelligence agency (Aman), and the General Staff, where they arrest thousands of Palestinian youth, interrogate them, and torture them in order to obtain information.
The occupation army relies on the information it obtains from detainees under torture in carrying out its operations and in frightening the Palestinians that there is no point in continuing the resistance, according to the doctrine that says, “What we cannot achieve by force, we will achieve with more force,” as the military and strategic expert confirms.
Regarding the encirclement of the city of Hebron, the retired general stated that the occupation army always relies on psychological warfare to pressure the Palestinians and influence their awareness, noting that the occupation army and its leadership have declared more than once that they consider their war on the Palestinian people an existential war.
The occupation wants to pressure the Palestinian people by destroying the infrastructure and all the necessities of life and separating the Palestinians from the geography, with the aim of displacing them, and thus opening the way for the settlers to build and expand their settlements.
He considered that the most dangerous thing is what the occupation is doing these days, such as killing lives, arrests, field executions, sabotage, and cutting off water and electricity, with the aim of expanding settlements without shedding light on the process.
A week ago, the occupation forces began a large-scale operation in the northern West Bank under the pretext of dismantling resistance cells. Since then, resistance fighters have been confronting them with explosive devices and bullets, killing and wounding a number of its soldiers.
