Commenting on the developments taking place in the Jenin camp in the northern West Bank, Major General Wassef Erekat, an expert in military and strategic affairs, said that the Palestinian resistance in the West Bank excelled in containing the first shock and the peak of the Israeli attack.
He explained that the resistance waited until the shock subsided, then moved to respond to the Israeli attack with offensive operations, and is valiantly confronting it and inflicting losses on its ranks.
According to Erekat, the resistance in the West Bank uses guerrilla warfare and exploits the weak points of the enemy, which is suffering from exhaustion and fatigue. He stressed that the resistance fighters were able to reorganize their cells and fighters and reach some areas, plant explosives and clash with the occupation forces with light weapons.
Al-Aqsa Brigades-Jenin announced that its fighters set up a tight ambush for an Israeli infantry force in the Al-Damj neighborhood in the city of Jenin, killing and wounding its members.
Israeli media sources also confirmed the killing of an Israeli soldier and the injury of others – today, Saturday – in an ambush in the Jenin camp, and the sources described what happened as a “difficult security incident.”
According to Major General Erekat, the capabilities of the resistance cannot be equal to the capabilities of the occupation army, but it has the will and steadfastness that frightens the occupation. In the first intifada, weapons were not used, but stones and knives, and weapons were not used in the 1936 strike. That is, there are experiences in which the Palestinians faced the occupation army and were able to resist it and survive.
It is noteworthy that a leading source in the Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades – the military wing of the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) – explained that the Qassam Brigades and the resistance factions have prepared themselves for long days of confrontation and clashes, stressing that the fighters have redistributed their units in the northern West Bank in a way that will foil the Israeli military operation.
The occupation army began its extensive operation in the West Bank at dawn last Wednesday under heavy air force cover, and the Israeli media described the attack as the largest of its kind since Operation Defensive Shield in 2002.
