Thousands of people gathered to say no to racism and Islamophobia in several British cities, including Sheffield, Liverpool and Bristol.

The rallies come in response to violent far-right riots that have rocked the country for the past week. The riots began after unfounded rumors spread that a Muslim asylum seeker was responsible for the murder of three girls.

This Wednesday, while the police were anticipating new racist demonstrations, they found peaceful groups gathered in the streets or in front of law firms specializing in immigration.

Signs reading “Refugees Welcome”, “London Against Racism” and “Let’s say it loud and clear, refugees are welcome here” were seen in Birmingham.

Police are reporting 2,000 protesters in Brighton.

Police released surveillance footage on Thursday in an attempt to identify some of last week’s rioters.
