Since October 7, Palestinians detained by Israel have described horrific treatment and torture, particularly in military detention centers.
Even in normal times, Palestinians accuse the Israeli government of using arbitrary arrests as a weapon and say they face discrimination and abuse in the Israeli penal system. But since October 7, the scale and severity of abuses and the lack of transparency have increased dramatically. With government ministers bragging about subjecting prisoners to “starvation diets” and some detainees even dying under torture, being arrested as a Palestinian – often without charge or trial – seems more dangerous than ever.
