The American federal state is under threat of a possible shutdown. The House of Representatives approved a new unusual budget extension on Tuesday, in the hope of avoiding the paralysis within three days of the American administration.

This text was adopted by 336 votes to 95. A large majority of Democrats voted, including 209 votes for, only a large half of Republicans 127 for, and 93 against.

This agreement proposes to extend the budget temporarily at two different deadlines: one part until mid-January, the other until the beginning of February. It was presented by the new Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mike Johnson, unknown to the general public and with fairly limited experience within the Republican staff.

The text, supported by elected Democrats and Republicans, must be adopted in the Senate during the night from Friday to Saturday, in order to avert this threat with devastating consequences.

In the event that the Senate does not validate the extension of the budget by this date, the country’s economy will experience serious slowdowns. Nearly 1.5 million civil servants could lose pay, air traffic could be disrupted and access to many places such as national parks could be restricted.
