Saulos Chilima died in the crash of his plane on Monday June 10 along with 9 other people

The military aircraft was unable to land due to bad weather before disappearing from radar screens. After 24 hours of searching, he was located in a forest in the northeast of the country.

During the state funeral which took place this Sunday at the stadium in Lilongwe, the capital of Malawi, President Lazarus Chakwera called for an independent investigation into the accident. He said the country’s defense forces were not capable of carrying out a credible investigation on their own.

Elected vice president in 2014, Saulos Chilima, 51, was very popular, especially among young people.
