In Qatar, the farm-to-table approach is growing in popularity, and the Qatar 365 team went to see how these initiatives are achieving their goals while remaining sustainable and eco-friendly.
The first stop is the Ritz-Carlton Doha, a luxury hotel that devotes space to agriculture and gardening. Laila Humairah discovered that this program aims to stimulate the senses of visitors. The Ritz Kids Garden is open to adults and children to explore and discover the vegetables, fruits, herbs and spices that grow there. They can also feed the animals, as the farm is home to goats, ducks and turkeys.
The garden also supplies the freshest ingredients to the hotel’s culinary team. Managing director Carlo Javakhi believes the concept has exceeded expectations and adds that an expansion of the garden is planned.
Aadel Haleem visited Little Gardener’s Academy, by Hadiqaa, to take part in a gardening session. The microfarm at Education City emphasizes interactivity and helping young children understand food and nature. Agricultural engineer Vicky Damalou, co-founder of Hadiqaa, says the aim is to promote sustainable living in the Gulf.
