Giorgia Meloni traveled to Albania to take stock of the migrant reception center project. A media stunt before the European elections, denounces the Italian opposition.
On the edge of the Adriatic, in the port city of Shengjin, in the northwest of Albania, one of the centers responsible for welcoming migrants sent by Italy will soon be opened.
Giorgia Meloni also went to the site on Wednesday to take stock of the progress of the work and above all to praise her project.
“We believe that the most useful element of this project is that it can represent an extraordinary deterrent tool for illegal migrants who want to go to Europe“, declared the Italian Prime Minister.
For the Italian opposition, this visit is an electoral media stunt a few days before the European elections.
Rome will have to spend around 800 million euros over five years for this project. Ultimately, up to 36,000 asylum seekers will be sent to these centers, which will be funded and placed under the jurisdiction of Italy. According to some Albanian MPs, this project constitutes a renunciation of national sovereignty.
