The US Agency for International Development is trying to open crossing points to deliver humanitarian aid to Gaza.
USAID, the US agency for international development, is in talks with Palestinian officials to set up crossing points into Gaza and deliver humanitarian aid from the enclave.
According to the United Nations, Gaza’s 2.2 million residents are at risk of starvation.
The White House hopes for a truce agreement before the start of Ramadan.
Matthew Miller, US State Department Spokesperson: “There are other avenues that we’re exploring to deliver humanitarian assistance, but we’re also trying – and that’s why you hear us talking about it so much and why we’re deploying so much efforts – to secure a hostage exchange agreement that would lead to a temporary ceasefire, because ultimately this would resolve many of the problems associated with the distribution of humanitarian aid.”
Qatar, the United States and Egypt are trying to bring about an end to the month-and-a-half-long fighting and the release of some of the Hamas hostages. 130 hostages are still in the hands of the terrorist organization, 105 are believed to be still alive.
In exchange, Israel could release up to ten Palestinians every day.
