A collaborator of the Russian opponent claims that he was about to be released as part of a prisoner exchange.
Alexei Navalny was about to be released in a prisoner exchange before his death in prison just over a week ago, says Maria Pevchikh.
The Russian opponent’s collaborator spoke in a video published this Monday on YouTube.
“Alexeï Navalny should have been released in the following days, she says. We had gotten a decision on a trade. At the beginning of February, it was proposed to Vladimir Putin to exchange an FSB officer and hitman, Vadim Krasikov, who is serving a sentence for murder in Germany, for two American nationals and Alexeï Navalny. I received confirmation that negotiations were ongoing and were in the final stages on February 15th. On February 16, Alexei was killed.
Alexeï Navalny’s spokesperson, Kira Yarmysh, also indicated in a message that they were looking for a place to organize his funeral.
The body of the Russian opponent was handed over to his mother on Saturday.
The circumstances of his death remain unclear. The Russian Prison Service says he died after suddenly feeling unwell after a walk.
Several Western countries accuse Russian President Vladimir Putin of being responsible for the death of Alexei Navalny.
