Several people, including engineers from the region, blamed the facade of the building, which would have led to the rapid spread of the fire.
It took eight teams of firefighters and several hours to put out the flames. This building, located in a residential area of the city of Valencia, caught fire late Thursday afternoon. The human toll is heavy: at least four dead, fourteen injured, including six firefighters. And at least fourteen people are missing.
The mayor of Valencia has declared three days of official mourning in the city.
“The most curious thing is the way the facade burned. The facade material spread the fire“, wonders a resident of the building.
“We didn’t think the fire was going to be this big. We thought it would be quick but not so catastrophic“said a resident of the building.
Eight medical units were sent to the scene. A field hospital will also be set up, according to public television.
On social networks, Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez said he was “dismayed” by this tragedy.
