Albanian opposition demonstrates against corruption

Thousands of them demonstrated Tuesday evening in Tirana in front of the residence of the Albanian Prime Minister, whom they accuse of corruption.

A movement called by an opposition group, led by the country’s former President and head of government, Sali Berisha.

The latter also addressed the demonstrators by videoconference, from his home, where he has been under house arrest since December, as part of an investigation into corruption.

According to him, the accusations against him would be “purely political” and would be pushed by the current Prime Minister Edi Rama.

For months, opposition MPs have been calling for the creation of a parliamentary commission to investigate alleged corruption cases involving several senior officials.
