An appeal made by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, Filippo Grandi, at the end of a week-long visit to the country, which took him to several regions affected by the war.

In a town targeted by drones two weeks ago, a couple saw their house destroyed during an attack, while they were inside:

“There were no more windows or doors,” says the resident. “The clothes and our bed were covered in glass. We used cling film that was given to us to plug the holes because there was nothing else to save.”

“UNHCR was able to immediately help this family by helping them to seal the windows, for example,” said Filippo Grandi, United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees during his field visit. “It’s very cold in Ukraine in winter. UNHCR also ‘helped with repairing ceilings and clearing rubble, all things people need to do immediately to be able to continue living.’

The United Nations and its partners have asked the international community for nearly 3.8 billion euros to cover the costs of operations carried out this year in Ukraine. Since the start of the Russian military offensive in Ukraine, initiated almost two years ago, nearly 10.8 million people have benefited from these devices.
