The German authorities were forced to evacuate 6,500 homes in the city of Osnabruck in order to nullify a bomb from the residues of World War II, before they later allowed about 11,000 residents to return to their homes late on Tuesday evening.
“The bomb and the explosion were null and void, the situation is safe, everyone can return to their homes,” said a statement to the city’s authorities.
The bomb’s effect also caused the closure of the city’s main trains station, and thus the movement of trains from it stopped and to it completely.
The unexploded bomb was found during construction work in the city of Lukverkl in the city, and the authorities decided to evacuate the neighboring areas immediately, and the residents informed that the bomb’s effective process was necessary to stave off the danger.
Population behavior
The evacuation of the banned area in a radius of a thousand meters was delayed around the site of finding the unexploded bomb for several hours, and the authorities criticized the behavior of some of the population who tried to penetrate the barriers or circumvent it to return to their homes, and warned them that this caused the delay of nullifying the bomb.
According to the German News Agency, unexploded bombs have already been found in the Laquirel neighborhood several times in November, February and April last, where a new urban area is being established at the previous shipping station site in the city, which during World War II was subjected to violent shelling.
In early April, experts invalidated the effect of 3 unexploded bombs from the remnants of World War II, and more than 15,000 people were forced to leave their homes to complete the operation, and they were offered a reduction on tickets to enter the zoo, museums and other facilities for one day as compensation.
