While the EU Court of Justice examines the compliance of the agreement on the reception of migrants in Rome and Tirana, the government of Giorgia Meloni has resumed the transfer of migrants to Albania.
49 migrants rescued this weekend in international waters south of Lampedusa arrived this Tuesday at the Albanian port in Shengjin, aboard the Cassiope patroller, a ship of the Italian Navy.
In 2023, Rome has made an agreement with Tirana providing for the opening of two reception centers So that migrants rescued in the Mediterranean Sea by the Italian coast guard were taken care of on Albanian soil.
These centers have so far remained inactive, the EU Court of Justice having been seized twice by justice to ensure that the agreement is well in accordance with European texts.
The CJEU has not yet rolled up on the issue, but the government of Giorgia Meloni has chosen not to wait for her decision and to resume transfers.
