The American authorities said – yesterday, Saturday – that 43 people were confirmed, including 15 children, as a result of torrential torrents that swept in the center of Texas (south of the country). The rescuers continue to search for missing persons.
Officials said more than 850 people were rescued, including some who were clinging to trees. The floods began yesterday with heavy rains, causing the level of the Gawadlope River to rise by 8 meters within 45 minutes.
Among the missing persons are 27 girls from the Camp Mysteic summer camp. Kerville mayor Dalton Rice said there may be more missing people in the area.
For his part, the governor of the state of Texas Greg Abbott said – in a press conference – that he will expand the state of the state and will request additional federal resources from President Donald Trump.
Research and combing
Nim Kid, head of the Emergency Department in Texas, said that the air, land and water rescue teams are combing along the Guadlope River, in search of survivors and dead bodies.
The National Meteorological Authority warned that more rains are expected, and that “excessive flow may lead to the flooding of rivers, bays, tables and other low and exposed areas.”
“The sky rained in one day what it rains in one year,” said Gerardo Martinenis, 61, said. “The water reached the top of the trees at an altitude of about 10 meters. The river washed off cars and entire homes.
