The war between Israel and Hamas entered its 100th day this Sunday. The Israeli government calls for continued military operations.
Despite international pressure and a historic trial before the International Court of Justice, the war between Israel and Hamas, which entered its 100th day this Sunday, is still expected to continue.
In a speech given on Saturday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was very determined: “No one will stop us – neither The Hague nor the Axis of Evil,” he declared, referring to the trial for genocide, initiated by South Africa against Israel, but also to Iran’s activities in Lebanon in particular and in the Red Sea, via attacks on commercial ships by Houthi rebels.
Israel’s goal appears unwavering: Israeli leaders pledge to continue their war to free all hostages still held in Gaza and eliminate Hamas.
On Saturday, the IDF released for the first time a video showing the specific “Refaim” (“Ghosts”) unit in action. One of the main objectives of this unit is to find, discover and destroy “hidden” targets, such as Hamas leaders.
The war began the day after October 7 after a surprise and unprecedented attack by Hamas militants from the Gaza Strip against the State of Israel. A large-scale terrorist operation that killed nearly 1,200 people, most of them civilians. 250 hostages were also taken hostage, 132 of whom are still missing. Never in its history has the Jewish state had to face such a massacre.
Faced with this aggression, Israel launched a vast counter-offensive, destroying a large part of the infrastructure in the Gaza Strip. A sign that the fighting is far from over, on Saturday, a new deadly Israeli airstrike was reported in the Daraj neighborhood, killing at least 20 people, including children, according to Palestinian sources.
One hundred days later, the human toll remains extremely heavy: Israeli bombings have killed at least 23,843 people, mainly women, adolescents and children, according to the latest report from the local Ministry of Health controlled by Hamas.
The Israeli blockade has also forced hundreds of thousands of Palestinians to flee combat zones, causing serious shortages of food and fuel across the Gaza Strip. The health system has collapsed.
Traveling to Gaza, the Commissioner General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) denounced on Saturday “a stain on our common humanity”.
“It has been a hundred days since this devastating war began, killing and displacing people in Gaza, following horrific attacks by Hamas and other groups against the people in Israel. It has been a hundred days of hardship and anguish for the hostages and their families”, declared Philippe Lazzarini in a press release.
