The Palestinian Red Crescent Society said that more than 10,000 tents, sheltering displaced people in Mawasi Khan Yunis, south of the Gaza Strip, were blown away and drowned as a result of the depression accompanied by rain and strong winds.
Civil Defense spokesman in the Gaza Strip, Mahmoud Basal, also announced that 10,000 tents were severely damaged by the rain in the Strip, and explained that the majority of the displaced people’s tents were damaged.
For his part, Bashar Murad, Director of Health Programs and Director of the Association’s Al-Quds Hospital, said that the displaced people were forced to move their tents to areas far from the beach in very difficult and harsh conditions.
He added, “Citizens suffer from various chest diseases, especially the elderly and children, as a result of the lack of winter clothes, heating methods, and blankets in light of the extremely low temperatures.”
Murad pointed out that Israel’s continued prevention of relief aid from entering the Gaza Strip and the high prices of scarce goods available in the local market led to the spread of famine.
The government media office in the Gaza Strip announced yesterday, Monday, that about 10,000 tents housing displaced people were damaged and swept away by sea waves during the past two days as a result of a depression.
The government office for Gaza launched an urgent humanitarian distress call to the international community, to all countries of the world, and to all international and international organizations, to save hundreds of thousands of displaced people in the Gaza Strip before it is too late.
He explained that the Israeli army prevented the entry of 250,000 tents and caravans (mobile homes) into the Strip in light of a dangerous humanitarian reality.
He indicated that about 81% of the displaced persons’ tents had become unusable, according to a government field assessment, according to the statement.
